This browser-based utility converts a full-color PNG image to a monocolor PNG image. A monocolor image is also called a monochrome image (or a 1-bit image) and it uses just one color for drawing all the pixels on it. In the options of this program, you can set this color and also adjust the background color of the PNG. The color can be entered as a name, hex code, rgb code, or rgba code. If you're using the rgba code, then both the drawing pixel color and the background color can have transparency and the alpha channel can be adjusted via the "Alpha" argument in the "rgba(R, G, B, Alpha)" color definition. As a PNG image usually has many colors, to find the best monocolor approximation, it's first quantized by mapping all colors to either the background color or the drawing color. Once it's quantized, all original pixels are replaced with the new color. If you enable monochrome dithering, then the background pixels will be scattered in between the drawing pixels to improve the appearance of the image. Dithering creates the appearance of multiple shades by varying the distance between pixels. There are many different algorithms used to dither images and the most popular is the Floyd-Steinberg algorithm, which is selected by default.
